Strasbourg – Morocco and the Council of Europe adopted, on Tuesday in Strasbourg (eastern France), their cooperation action plan for 2012-2014.
The ceremony of exchanging related documents, between Moroccan Foreign minister Saad Dine El Otmani and secretary general of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, took place on the sidelines of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) which opened on Monday with the attendance notably of Solidarity minister Bassima Hakkaoui and MPs from both houses.
This plan seeks to reinforce cooperation in the fields of democracy, the rule of law and human rights.
The plan comes following a visit by SG of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland to Morocco, where he reiterated the Council’s commitment to fostering its partnership with Morocco which is a member state in many organizations.
PACE had granted Morocco a “Partner for Democracy” status a year ago to reinforce institutional cooperation with parliaments of adjacent non member states wishing to benefit from the Council’s experience in democratic reforms.
