Port Strategy
Morocco is in the process of investing €1 billion in port upgrades, €350 of which will be spent on new installations at Casablanca.
The remaining €750m has been earmarked to build a 3m teu capacity box terminal at Nador, located close to the Spanish enclave of Melilla.
Other new facilities will enable 25m tons of petroleum to be handled, seven million tons of coal and three million tons of general cargo. New infrastructure will be built by the state-owned company Nador West Med.
For 2015, €3.2bn of public money will be spent on this project, with the rest to follow by 2030.
At the same time, expansion of the port of Tangier is proceeding, with construction under way of Tanger Med II.
