Tunis – Negotiations are under way between Morocco and China to elaborate a project of strategic partnership between the two countries, Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani said on Thursday.

This partnership will coordinate the two countries’ stances on a number of political matters, and develop and diversify Chinese-Moroccan economic cooperation to encompass other vital sectors (investment, tourism, industry, technology..), El Otmani told MAP following the 5th China-Arab Cooperation Forum held in Hammamet in Tunisia.

The Chinese-Moroccan strategic partnership will touch also on the cultural and educational field as it will contribute to increasing scholarships granted to Moroccan students to pursue their studies in Chinese universities, he added.

El Otmani met earlier, on the sidelines of the Forum, with Chinese peer Yang Jiechi on means and ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

On the results of the 5th China-Arab Cooperation Forum, El Otmani said that this session helped to foster partnership between the two parties.

In addition to politics, the Chinese-Arab cooperation concerns many sectors such as the fight against desertification, renewable energy, industry, technology and investment, he went on.

Morocco supports this kind of South-South cooperation which enables to set the balance of international relations politically and economically, he added.

Concerning the forum’s 2012-2014 executive plan, Morocco put on the table a series of proposals related to renewable energy and the fight against desertification, given their importance for China as well as Arab countries.
