Morocco Chairs UNSC Working Group On Peace Maintaining Operations

Members of the United Nations’ Security Council (UNSC) agreed to elect Moroccan Ambassador to the U.N., Mohamed Loulichki, as president of the UNSC working group on peace keeping operations, the U.N. said on Friday.

Morocco, which has just started its 2-year mandate as a non-permanent member of the 15-nation council, will preside over the group starting from January.

The Kingdom was also elected deputy chairman of the Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee along with Russia and France, permanent members of the executive body.

The north African country also becomes, with Pakistan, a new non-permanent member, deputy chairman of the CS committee concerning the Democratic Republic of Congo.
