New York – Moroccan minister delegate to the foreign minister, Youssef Amrani, called, on Tuesday in New York, for statements and good intentions to be turned into commitments in order to alleviate the serious insecurity in the Sahel.
“The time has come to translate statements and good intentions into concrete commitments in a spirit of shared responsibility,” the minister told MAP after a UN Security Council debate on the Sahel under the theme “effects of transborder organised crime on peace, security and stability in West Africa and the Sahel region”.
The minister insisted that all-out, continous mobilisation has become a sine qua non in this fight and that “it is our duty to reinforce intervention means within the sole framework likely to yield results, that of effective solidarity.”
In this regard, he said that no country could think it can ensure its security without establishing appropriate partnerships to that end.
Amrani warned that the lack of socio-economic prospects for the youth would be a breeding ground for recruiting extremist groups and transborder criminal organisations.
