Rabat – Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani has called for a new partnership framework between the two shores of the Mediterranean to be developped, taking into consideration the new aspirations of the Arab countries in terms of democracy, freedom and economic prosperity.
The call was made at the “Croatia Summit”, held on July 6-7 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, a foreign ministry statement said on Sunday.
The minister, who presented Morocco’s vision on the future of relations between the Mediterranean countries and the European Union, pleaded for building a new Mediterranean order based on four pillars, namely “an area of ??shared values ??”, a “common economic space”, an “area of ??shared security” and a “common space of knowledge”.
He stressed the need to give new impetus to the European Neighbourhood Policy, as well as to the Union for the Mediterranean.
El Otmani held, on the sidelines of his participation in this international conference, a series of talks with a number of his European counterparts, especially foreign ministers of Croatia, Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with the speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro.
The talks focused on ways and means of strengthening bilateral relations between Morocco and these countries.
