The Moroccan authorities arrested 13 people over suspicion of forming a cell linked to the Islamic State (IS) group, the interior ministry announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The suspects, aged between 22 and 44, were active in the northern cities of Sale, Casablanca and Mohammedia as well as the central city of Kelaa des Sraghna, the statement said.
According to initial investigations, the suspects were propagating IS ideology and plotting terrorist attacks in the country, the statement said.
The operation led to the seizure of electronic devices, bladed weapons, masks, manuscripts promoting extremist ideology and a letter in which the suspects pleaded allegiance to IS leader, the statement said.
The arrest of these suspects came more than a month after the murdering of two foreign tourists in a mountainous area near the tourist hub of Marrakech by IS-linked suspects.
