Rabat – Morocco’s security forces have dismantled a religious group called “Al Jamaa Mahdaouiya” which holds “strange beliefs”, composed of elements that were operating in the cities of Taourirt, Oujda, Laroui and Essaouira, the Interior Ministry announced on Thursday in a statement.

These elements were headed by a leader who made them believe that he is “Al Mehdi Al Mountadar”, the statement said, adding that the disciples of the Jamaa adopt “strange beliefs” based on reverence for their leader who holds “perverse ideas”.

They obeyed his orders to the point of changing their names, under the pretext that they were soiled, selling their property for donation to the group and asking for authorization to have sex with their wives, said the source.

“In addition to funds raised from his followers residing in Morocco, the head of the Jamaa received other funds from abroad, which he used to distribute to them to strengthen their obedience to him and ensure their loyalty to his perverse practices”, the source said.

The accused will be brought to justice after the completion of investigations conducted under the supervision of the Prosecution in accordance with the law, it said.
