The Moroccan security services arrested four people with suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) group, the Moroccan Interior Ministry announced in a statement on Monday.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 24, were operating in the northern cities of Casablanca, Tangier and Nador, and the southern town of Tiznit, the statement noted.
According to the initial investigations, the arrested were attempting to acquire skills of manufacturing explosives with the aim to carry out terror attacks in the kingdom, the ministry pointed out.
The raid also seized various electronic devices, knives and documents promoting IS extremist ideology, the same source said.
One of the suspects had close links to another IS suspect arrested last May after security forces dismantled a terrorist cell linked to IS group in a joint operation between Morocco and Spain.
Since 2015, Morocco has busted over 50 terrorist cells, more than 40 of which were linked to the IS, according to interior ministry’s statistics.
