Morocco said Sunday that it has arrested two Islamic State (IS) linked suspects who were planning to join IS’s branch in Libya.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had close links to IS leaders who are in charge of providing logistic support for people to join the militant group, the interior ministry said in a statement.
The move is part of the ongoing investigation launched in the wake of the bust of nine-member-cell late last month, which planned to join IS in Libya, the ministry noted.
The ministry pointed out that the cell planned to receive training in IS camps in Libya and return to Morocco to carry out terrorist attacks, targeting a number of sites, particularly security installations.
The interior ministry said that since 2013, over 30 terrorist cells have been destroyed and “numerous terrorist plans” targeting critical Moroccan and foreign interests have been foiled.
