Rabat – Morocco and Spain have expressed satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between their Ministries of Interior, with convincing results achieved, and voiced their determination to continue to work on this path.
In a joint statement issued after a working meeting on Tuesday in Rabat between Moroccan Interior Minister Taieb Cherqaoui, and his Spanish counterpart Antonio Camacho, the two sides underlined the solid friendly relations between HM King Mohammed VI and HM King Juan Carlos.
The two ministers also recalled the good relations of cooperation between the two countries governments and their peoples attachment to the values of democracy, freedom and tolerance, the statement added.
They also examined aspects of bilateral cooperation between their respective departments, especially in the area of migration, transnational organised crime, terrorism and police cooperation.
Regarding migration flow management, the two officials reiterated their commitment to a comprehensive and integrated approach to this issue.
In this regard, Camacho highlighted Moroccos credibility as a strategic ally of Spain in the fight against migrant smuggling and human trafficking.
Cherqaoui, for his part, thanked Spain for its valuable contribution to the success of the 2011 Operation Transit of Moroccans living abroad.
With regard to police cooperation, the two ministers stressed the importance of implementing the police cooperation centres project as soon as possible in order to strengthen cooperation between their respective departments.
They also expressed concerns about the growth of terrorism in the Sahel region, and emphasized the need for a collective, concerted approach by all countries of the region to create an area of peace and shared prosperity.
Moreover, the Spanish minister praised Morocco’s great achievements in democratic reforms.
