The two countries have signed an agreement outlining the next steps of a gas pipeline deal.
Signed at a ceremony involving Moroccan King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, the deal pertains to a pipeline the two countries agreed to build in December 2016 that will run onshore and offshore.
The 5,660 km pipeline would assist with the energy needs of West Africa, in addition to boosting Nigeria’s export opportunities.
The two nations have agreed to launch front end engineering and design, involving countries the pipeline will cross in the Economic Community of West African States, as well as determining the amount of gas available for export to Europe.
This leg of the project also provides for the assessment of financial cost and the pursuit of funding from development banks.
Construction will be completed in phases over the course of 25 years.
