Moroccan Mobile Internet Users Up By 35% In Q3

Morocco saw the annual growth rate in mobile internet users progress to 35 percent in the third quarter (+31% in Q2), according to national regulator ANRT. The number of users increased by 3.31 million since June, reaching 21.25 million overall at end-September, including 6.46 million LTE connections.

Over the three months, ADSL subscriptions rose by 6,000 to 1.29 million, with an annual growth rate of 8 percent. Including mobile and ADSL users, the country’s internet penetration rate improved to nearly 65 percent, from 50 percent a year earlier.

Total mobile connections reached 44.25 million, representing year-on-year growth of 2.1 percent. Postpaid subscriptions rose by 10 percent to 3.21 million, while prepaid users were up 1 percent to 41.05 million.

While retaining the lead in overall connections, Maroc Telecom (IAM) lost ground in the quarter, as its mobile market share dropped by 1 percentage point to nearly 43 percent. Rival Orange Morocco built on the gains made in the previous quarter, increasing by almost 1 point to reach 35 percent, while Inwi progressed to nearly 23 percent.
