LONDON, Oct 29 (BERNAMA-NNN-MAP) — The recent trip by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to the Middle East reflects a genuine will by Rabat to put in place an efficient strategic alliance with member states of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), says Moroccan Delegate Foreign Minister Youssef Amrani.
In an interview with the London-based internmational Arabic language newspaper, Asharq al Awsat, Youssef underlined that this partnership was based on common interests and was part of a win-win logic aimed at boosting relations between Morocco and the Gulf countries politically and economically.
He said an action plan was established for this strategic partnership and would be implemented between 2012 and 2016.
The plan covers political, economic, judicial and cultural cooperation and Youssef said the US$5.0 billion pledged over five years would be allocated as donations offered equally by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE and Kuwait — countries visited by the king, who also visited Jordan.
Quoting experts, Youssef said that thanks to its political stability, developed economy and efforts to promote good governance, Morocco had become a favoured destination for investors from the Gulf countries.
The North African kingdom is also a prime destination of capital and a platform for expansion to the rest of Africa, Europe and the US.
