DAKAR (BERNAMA-NNN-MAP) — Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Senegalese President Macky Sall, on Monday inaugurated the Mohammed VI Ophthalmological Clinic built by a Moroccan foundation in the Camberene suburb of Dakar.

The King, during his previous visit to Senegal, had instructed the Alaouite Foundation for Human and Sustainable Development to build and equip this medical humanitarian facility which will contribute to reinforcing Senegal’s health infrastructure and fighting against preventable blindness.

The 1,000 sq metre Mohammed VI clinic includes consultation rooms to diagnose the different ophthalmological diseases and can handle up to 50,000 patients yearly. It also comprises equipped operating rooms to perform surgery for treatment of cataracts, glaucoma and retinal detachment, in addition to a conference room.

The facility can also host campaigns organized by Moroccan physicians for the benefit of poor local populations. More than 2,500 cataract operations can be performed annually.

The clinic can also serve as a training platform for West African practitioners.
