Rabat – Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani met, on Friday in Rabat, with his Nigerien peer Mohamed Bazoum on the security challenge in the Sahel-Saharan region and inter-African cooperation.
“The talks turned on bilateral relations and the major challenges facing the Sahel-Saharan region mainly with the deterioration of security since the fall of Gaddafi’s regime which resulted in arms proliferation,” El Otmani told the press following the meeting.

He affirmed that Morocco is determined to develop an efficient cooperation with the different African parties.

At the bilateral level, the minister assured his Nigerien counterpart that Morocco is keen to make headway with partnership between the two countries.

Mohamed Bazoum said that the meeting was an occasion to stress the situation of insecurity prevailing in the Sahel-Saharan region.

He said that he agreed with El Otmani to hold a new session of the Joint committee for cooperation in Niamey in 2012.
