London – Moroccan athlete Abdalaati Iguidir won the bronze medal in men’s 1500 meters on Tuesday as part of the Olympic Games, London 2012.
This is the first medal for Morocco in the London edition, and the 22nd over the history of Moroccan sports since 1960.
Iguidir, the 2012 world indoor champion, clocked 3:35:13 behind Algerian Taoufik Makhloufi (3:34:08) and U.S. Leonel Manzano (3:34:79).
He will participate on Wednesday in the semi-final of 5,000, besides his countrymen Soufiane Bouquantar and Aziz Lahbabi.
In the last Olympic Games (Beijing 2012), the Moroccan athlete had finished fifth.
