Canada supports international efforts to ensure judicial independence and access to justice.
This week, the Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, attended the inaugural Marrakech International Justice Conference. She spoke about Canada’s perspective on three important issues: judicial independence, judicial diversity and the importance of adhering to the rule of law.
Other ministers of justice, public prosecutors, and members of the judiciary from North America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia came together to discuss the independence of the judiciary and the rights of litigants within the rules of justice.
While in Morocco, Canada signed a common declaration between the Department of Justice and the Ministry of Justice for the Kingdom of Morocco aimed at fostering cooperation through the exchange of knowledge and experience related to their respective legal systems.
