The protest and boycott against a price hike for milk and dairy products has expanded to Saudi Arabia after Morocco, affecting ‘Almanrai’, a leading milk company in the Middle East.

On July 2, the price of milk and yogurt suddenly increased, according to products, up between 5 and 9%. The price, the company said, ”matched an increase in production costs connected to energy, transport, cheese imports and manpower”.

Saudi consumers, however, did not appreciate the excuses they deemed a ”pretext, not at all clear and without details”. The boycott was promoted online under the hashtag #letitrot and in a few days obtained the result of making ‘Almanrai’s stocks fall by a few percentage points. (ANSAmed)
