Creating in Palermo a network of women leaders in the Mediterranean, actively involving 20 social and political female activists to guarantee strategies effectively responding to women’s needs and priorities, is the objective of the phase 3 of AMINA, a European external cooperation project funded by the European Commission DG DEVCO (Development and Cooperation). The network MEDITER – Brussels coordinates the project.

The event will open in Palermo on November 13-16 and will start on Tuesday at 5 pm at the city’s bookstore Feltrinelli with the presentation of the book by Rita El Khayat ”Le Figlie di Sheherazade” (Sheherazade’s daughters).

The initiative will then take off on Friday with the arrival in Palermo of 20 women from 12 countries (Italy, France, Spain, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Palestine), involved in the network’s creation who, in this phase, organizers said, vies to lead to the recognition of know-how by establishing direct relations between private and public women managers in the Mediterranean region. At 10 am, at the palazzo delle Aquile, the general assembly of JASMINE NETWORK will approve a document outlining a program to draft a charter of women leaders of the Mediterranean. Mayor Leoluca Orlando will open the session with Sicily Governor Nello Musumeci and Adham Darawsha, the city’s culture councilor.(ANSAmed).
