The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen) will be joining the board of directors of Cleanergy AB to help the Sweden-based firm advance its concentrated solar power (CSP) and storage technology.
Under a new joint development agreement, Masen will be funding a “substantial part” of the Goethenburg-based firm’s research and development (R&D) work on Thermal Energy Storage (TES), as well as industrialisation and business development activities. Masen engineers will contribute to the TES evaluation and design, land and grid connection for complete system testing in Morocco, and introduction and demonstration for prospective customers on the African continent.
Through Masen, Cleanergy will gain access to a network of established partners and stakeholders in the CSP sector, as well as to new suppliers. It will also be able to test its technology using Masen’s facility in Ouarzazate, south-central Morocco.
“Cleanergy’s storage demonstrator will be installed on our R&D Platform in Ouarzazate, which will help accelerate its commercialization,” stated Mustapha Bakkoury, president of Masen.
Cleanergy is expected to present a demonstrator of its TES system next month.
