MAROC IN MODE REACHES OUT TO GERMANY
The trade mission Maroc in Mode, held from April 24 to 26 at the Duesseldorf Fashion House, attracted 24 exhibitors from Morocco and over 50 trade and industry visitors from retailing groups and denim, mens and womenswear brands who came out to be informed about the latest sourcing and production opportunities in Morocco.
For the past year, Morocco has become more active in the German market, where the North African country is still a new sourcing alternative. Various collections were offered at the event such as winter knitwear made from synthetic fibers for €9 and high-quality jackets made from hand-stitched linen or jeans and chinos also for €9. Production in Morocco is duty free and the country promotes its fast delivery times, quantity flexibility, competitive price-performance ratio as compared to Turkey, Tunisia and China as well as its geographical proximity to Europe, which allows for land routes.
One buyer from the fashion group commented, “If new trends emerge during a season, for example red trousers, than we have to act fast. Morocco offers a speed that enables us to have red trousers in our shop windows within six weeks.” A representative from a major German fashion brand added, “This kind of contact is really interesting for us. We’ll start with trial orders so that we can test the reliability of quality and delivery dates, and after a year we may very well become good partners. We’re currently reducing the number of suppliers to a limited few high-performance ones. Morocco as a near-cost country is a great advantage.”
The next Maroc in Mode & Maroc Sourcing event will be held on October 10 in Casablanca; many visitors are already confirmed.Mona Schmadl
