Marist Senior Wins Award to Study Arabic in Morocco this Summer

Senior Ashley Burke was will travel to Morocco in June.

Marist School Senior Ashley Burke will travel to Morocco in June where she will take 20 hours of Arabic courses as a result of a scholarship she recently earned, according to Marist’s website.

Burke will spend six weeks this summer studying Arabic as a result of the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y). This State Department-sponsored program provides merit-based scholarships to high school students for language immersion programs in uncommon foreign languages.
Burke will take 20 hours Arabic courses at the Qalam a Lawh Center for Arabic Studies. Her scholarship includes a pre-departure orientation and re-entry program in New York, roundtrip travel to the host city, tuition and academic supplies, room and board, and educational and cultural excursions, and medical benefits.
