According to a joint statement issued on Sunday following the official visit by HM King Mohammed VI to the Malian Republic, Mali provided, through its President Boubacar Keita, its support for the serious and credible efforts by Morocco to settle the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

Regarding the Sahara issue, President Keita welcomed the serious and credible efforts by the Kingdom of Morocco to move forward towards a peaceful, negotiated and final settlement for this issue, said the statement.

For his part, HM the King reiterated Morocco’s continuous concern over the preservation of Mali’s territorial unity and stability, added the joint statement.

The support shown by Mali for efforts continuously made by Morocco is an acknowledgment of the soundness of the national cause, whose validity is deeply-rooted in history, Bamako is well placed to testify to it given its geographic location and its knowledge of the region’s history. It is also a recognition of the relevance of the innovative approach that Morocco has adopted at the United Nations level to address this conflict fabricated by parties blinded by hegemonic designs in the region and which seek to undermine the territorial integrity of other countries.

In addition to this statement, King Mohammed VI and President Keita unveiled on Sunday the commemorative plaque of the main road which is named after the sovereign.

Named “the Mohammed VI Boulevard”, this road stretches over four kilometers and has a 26-meter width. It is one of the major roads in the capital. It is located in the commune IV where the sovereign laid, last Friday, the foundation stone for the construction of a modern, integrated perinatal clinic.
