The plush sand dunes of the Sahara and the open night skies sparkle with every star in the universe. This place has a certain ancient magic to it that brings to mind old stories like “Aladdin and the Forty Thieves”. This is Ouarzazate, Morocco, a place where outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers alike can experience the unique beauty of the desert and the friendly people who live here.
Air France and Royal Air Maroc have flights to Ouarzazate are, which may transit Casablanca, Morocco as well as Paris. Paris and Casablanca are great places to think about including a stopover in your trip, at least to recover from jet lag, if not for more exploration. Other options include direct flights from New York, or Paris transiting through Marrakesh, Morocco. This is another great option to explore.
Hotels and Riads: Deciding whether to stay in a hotel or Riad is a personal decision, and depends on what amenities you require. Le Berber Palace is considered a five star accommodation, but does not currently have in room internet access. Mercure Ouarzazate and Le Flint do have this type of amenity as do some Riads. Riads are privately owned mansions or estates that offer a more personal type of service to customers, and the best are located several kilometers outside of town.
Activities: There are many activities which can be arranged by your hotel concierge, or through a little bit of exploration in town. Many tourist excursions have shops of the main street through town. It takes a few hours and you should pack some water and sun screen. The set for the Coliseum from the film “Gladiator”, and some of the set pieces from the film “Alexander” are open for exploration. The off- road adventure is sure to please many adventurers.
The traditional camel rides into the desert can also be arranged through your hotel concierge or one of the many tourist excursion shops in town.
