Late last year we reported about the Magic Flying Carpets of the Berber Kingdom of Morocco, a carpet-dealing enterprise run by Brooklyn painter Katherine Bernhardt, her sister Elizabeth and Katherine’s husband, Yousef Jdia. The company alighted at the Canada gallery on the Lower East Side in November, offering Moroccan rugs at a variety of price points.
And now the Magic Flying Carpets are back in a New York gallery.
Through tomorrow, Saturday, May 26, the the Magic Flying Carpets are offering carpets at the Feature Inc. gallery at 131 Allen Street in conjunction with artist Sam Gordon’s show “trompe l’oeil.” (The patterns in Mr. Gordon’s works do certainly appear to be carpet-like, though they look more like futuristic, digital carpets than those of the Moroccan variety.)
In a gallery release, the carpet sellers share:
We search small villages for the most unique and beautiful designs, and we buy direct from villages, from women weavers, cave women, and nomads. These carpets are beautiful in their asymmetrical designs and strange color combinations.
