Madrid – Spain has thanked Morocco for its collaboration in extinguishing fires raging in this country since the weekend.

Mariano Rajoy “extends his thanks to Morocco for its collaboration” in extinguishing fires that ravaged thousands of hectares of forest in many parts of Spain, said a press release of the presidency of the Spanish government, published on Tuesday, following a working session between the president of the government and Spanish king Juan Carlos.

Two Moroccan seaplanes landed, Tuesday morning, in the Canary Islands to participate in counter-fire.

The aid is, according to Morocco’s Interior Ministry, part of “effective cooperation between the two countries,” recalling that the Spanish side “often participated in fighting forest fires in Morocco,” under bilateral cooperation agreements.
