Marrakesh, otherwise known as the “Red City”, is an absolutely magical place, which by letting your imagination go, you will be transported back in to a mystical world of sultans and wizards. The smell of the colourful spices, the music of the wooden instruments, the taste of the delicious healthy Moroccan food, and the chanting of the daily Muslim call to prayer, will fulfill your senses and revive your soul.
The city was founded in 1062, as the capital of a great empire. Under the influence of the Berbers, the Arabs and later on the French, various languages can be heard while walking around the ancient city. In no other country have I met such welcoming and warm people; they are so proud of their culture, and constantly try and share their past.
A little further, the Atlas Mountains are filled with mystical aromas of the past and the locals living there are in fusion with nature and have built villages with no electricity, running on water and colorful fabrics. As you walk through the “furnished” forests, a fairytale like place, you can smell the tangines cooking, fresh fish and chicken cooking on steamed stones, heated by flames… surrounded by bottled water from the mountains. You feel as though you are part of their community, and all you want to do is lie down in the shade of the trees and come to peace with yourself. A wonderful must-see place. I only hope that my small selection of photographs are able to share my admiration for this marvelous country.
