Local Muslims may be half a world away but those we talked to are happy the Gadhafi reign is over in Libya. “I think this is the news the people of Libya have been waiting to hear for years.” said Aslam Abdullah, Director of the Islamic Society of Southern Nevada.
During noon prayer other members of the Muslim community echoed the Imam’s comment.
Hamdi Adre from Lebanon knows full well what Libyans have lived with for more than 40 years. His country was torn apart in the 70s and 80s by civil war and occupation. He believes the road to democracy will happen. “Libyan people are very strong people they are very tough people, they are very strong people and I think they can do it” he said.
Banito Omre from Morocco agreed “They will elect a new president and they are going to have a relationship with every single country in the world.”
Imam Abdullah said what happened in Libya today is a warning to other dictators. “Dictatorship is unacceptable in any part of the world.”
