Morocco is once again set to be a key player in the Libya dossier, five months after the United Nations-backed agreement signed last July in Skhirat, led by Bernardino Leon, UN Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

Tomorrow the Moroccan city will host the ceremony dedicated to signing the political agreement to form a Libyan national unity government, with the objective of bringing the African country out of a long-standing crisis, according to the website of Moroccan daily La Nouvelle Tribune.

The Tribune called tomorrow’s ceremony a “historic and decisive step for the future of Libya, plunged into the darkness of an armed and political conflict that has lasted over three years with a heavy economic and social impact”.

After a year of “marathon UN-backed talks, tomorrow the signing of this accord will take place” the newspaper said, citing Salah Al-Makhzoum, deputy speaker in the Tripoli parliament, who thanked Rabat for efforts in advancing dialogue.

According to Moroccan Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar, Wednesday’s agreement will allow Libya to “pass to the phase of reconstruction and stability, but also national cohesion, saving its unity”.(ANSAmed).
