LGS Specialty Sales, Ltd., New Rochelle, N.Y., an importer and distributor of citrus, avocados and grapes, is reporting a strong Moroccan w. murcott mandarin season marked by good supply and quality.
After a good Moroccan clementine season, the company is expecting a steady supply of w. murcotts through the end of April, according to a news release.
“It has been a smooth transition from our early winter Moroccan clementine crop as the murcotts are anticipated to produce 20% more volume this year,” Luke Sears, LGS president and founder, said in the release. “This crop will provide a healthy supply to the market throughout the season to meet shoppers’ growing demand for the easy peelers.”
Originating in Morocco, the mandarin variety is also called a nadorcott.
Morocco’s dry summer and cool, wet winter creates an ideal environment for growing citrus.
As part of the company’s quality control program, inspectors will monitor the crop throughout the season to ensure that it continues to meet the Darling brand standards, according to the release.
Moroccan w. murcotts are available in 2-pound, 3-pound and 5-pound bags, as well as 5-pound boxes.
