Algerians on Saturday (April 20th) marked the 33rd anniversary of a security crackdown on Kabylie activists in 1980 in the Tizi Ouzou town of Taourirt Moussa, Tout sur l’Algerie reported. Demonstrations were held in Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Bejaia and other Kabylie towns, as well as in Algiers.
A petition was launched on the occasion by academics and Amazigh activists for making Tamazight an official language.
