RABAT, 16 Muharram/12 déc.(IINA)-The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in collaboration with the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco, will hold a regional workshop for the officials of documentation centers and libraries of the National Commissions for Education, Science and Culture in ISESCO Arab Member States, at the Library’s headquarters, over the period from 13 to 16 December 2011.

The workshop will bring together twelve (12) officials of the National Commissions’ documentation centers and libraries from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan and Tunisia.

It is worth mentioning that ISESCO will put on an exhibition of its publications on the sidelines of the workshop, which will be organized by the Organization’s Planning, Information and Documentation Center (PIDC).

The workshop is aimed at boosting the capacities of librarians and documentation centers’ officials, set up databanks, interlink the libraries and documentation centers on the web, address the preoccupations of the librarians and the documentation centers’ officials, and consider the technical and administrative problems faced by the libraries and documentation centers. It is also sought to encourage communication and information sharing among the persons interested or specialized in documentation or libraries, and promote cooperation and expertise exchange among librarians and documentation centers’ officials.

Likewise, the workshop will look into the following subjects: types of documental holdings, the policy of highlighting the importance of such holdings, the strategy for inventorying, indexing and characterizing the documental holdings, and the role of digital technology in preserving the documental holdings and emphasizing their value.

For the record, the workshop will be supervised by experts from the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco, El Hassania Library as well as professors from the Rabat-based High Institute for Information and Communication (ISIC).
