The 5th International Fisheries Fair “Halieutis” opened on Wednesday in Moroccan southern city of Agadir.
The fair was inaugurated by Aziz Akhannouch, Morocco’s minister of agriculture, fisheries, rural development, water and forests.
Spanning over a surface area of 16,000 sq meters, the five-day fair gathers over 280 exhibitors from around 40 countries around the globe.
Speaking at this occasion, Akhannouch said that the fair represents a good opportunity for professionals and various stakeholders in the fisheries sector to exchange experiences and contribute to fostering innovation in the vital sector for the Moroccan economy.
He recalled that Morocco remains the largest fish producing country in Africa and the world’s largest exporter of sardines.
“We must highlight these achievements and work on improving them,” he said.
