IMPORTS OF MOROCCAN TOMATOES, EU AGREEMENT FORESEES MORE TUTELAGE FOR EUROPEAN PRODUCERS
European producers more guaranteed on imports from Morocco of some fruit and vegetables produce, especially tomatoes.

An agreement has been reached after a meeting on the phone between the commissary for agriculture Dacian Ciolos and the Moroccan Ministry of agriculture concerning the entrance price of the produce in the EU. The news was reported by Ansa.
The agreement should reinsure the European sector, worried by the possibility that those operators had to invoice their tomatoes after a few days the had arrived in the EU, leaving space to possible manipulations of price to avoid paying customs duties.
Thus, assure Bruxelles authorities -”starting from October 2014 the modifications foreseen by the reform of the Community Agriculture Policy (CAP) will enter into force and the alternative method for the customs declarations will be updated, this means that instead of a fixed rate value at the act of import, in particolar for tomatoes. Morocco has obtained that in the calculations on the fixed ratevalue on imports, the product with a higher added value should be taken in consideration. The commission has committed to evaluate the correct functioningof the new system as soon as representative datas will be available, to recover possible lacks in case of necessity.
