King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia seeks to retain the status quo in the Arab world.
According to Foreign Policy Magazine (and Elliott Abrams of the Council on Foreign Relations) the House of Saud is attempting to slow the pace of reform in the Arab world by dollar diplomacy and other forms of persuasion. The pressure for change has been less intense in the monarchies and the Saud dynasty is eager to maintain the status quo in the relatively stable states.
