Rabat, Oct. 14, 2011 – HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by HRH prince Moulay Rachid and HH Prince Moulay Ismail, presided on Friday over the opening of the first session of the fifth legislative year of the eighth term.

In this speech, the Sovereign stressed that “given the national, regional and international environment, we have to keep in mind the great challenges facing the next legislature, at institutional level as well as in the area of development.”

“Once parliamentary election results have been proclaimed, it will be mostly up to the Government and Parliament to rise to those challenges, given the full executive and legislative powers they now have,” HM the King said.

The Monarch added that “hence, the government which will emerge from the majority in the next House of Representatives will be tasked with developing and implementing a specific, ambitious program, with clear priorities, objectives, funding sources as well as execution and assessment mechanisms.”

He insisted that the parliamentary opposition is expected to play a constructive role in terms of control and oversight.

Afterwards, HM the King, accompanied by HRH Moulay Rachid, received the speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdelouahed Radi, who presented to the Monarch the results of the parliamentary action during the fourth legislative year 2010-2011.

The Sovereign also received the minister in charge of relations with Parliament, Driss Lachgar, who presented to HM the King the results of the government action in Parliament during the legislative year 2010-2011.
