Rabat – HM King Mohammed VI has pardoned 287 people on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, celebrated on August 20, the Justice ministry said in a statement.
One inmate benefited from the pardon over his remaining prison term, while 117 others had their prison term reduced.
Two prisoners have seen their life sentence commuted into jail sentence.
Forty-nine inmates were granted pardon over their prison sentences. Imprisonment terms were pardoned and fines were maintained against 28 others.
Six prisoners had their imprisonment terms and fines annulled, and 84 others had their fines suspended.
Royal pardon is customary in Morocco to mark national and religious holidays.
