Tangier   –  HM King Mohammed VI enquired, on Tuesday in Tangier, about the progress of the reconversion project of the Tanger-ville port area, worth 6.2 billion dirhams.

   – The project will reinforce Tangier’s position as a leading cruising and boating tourism destination in the Mediterranean by 2016.

– The Sovereign launches construction works of the new fishing port, worth 1.09 billion dirhams.

– Part of the reconversion programme, this project is to contribute to developing the fishing sector in the region.

Stretching on a surface area of about 84 hectares, the project, whose works were launched in March 2011, aims at positioning the city of Tangier as a leading cruising and boating tourism destination at international level in general and in the Mediterranean basin in particular.

The construction works of the infrastructure of the new boating port have started last April.

HM the King also launched the construction works of the new fishing port, worth 1.09 billion dirhams.

The project, which is an integral part of the Tanger-ville port area reconversion project, is intended to ensure an optimal reconversion of the port area, improve the working conditions of fishing professionals, boost investments and create jobs in the sector.

The fishing port, due for completion by March 2015, is bound to have an important economic and social impact insofar as it will provide a modern infrastructure for professionals.
