MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has issued Royal directives to equate the financial allowances of partial scholarship students with those given to full scholarship students. The Royal directives benefit 340 students studying in Australia, Britain, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, France, Russia, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Morocco and Malaysia.

The total financial cost of these orders stands at RO 5.41 million, with the cost of adjustment for 209 students on the current budget is RO 3,084,405, while the cost of adjustment for 131 students studying on the development budget is RO 2,328,270. On behalf of the students and their parents, Dr Rawya bint Saud al Busaidiya, Minister of Higher Education, expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan for his continuous support to students.

In a statement to Oman News Agency, Dr Rawya said that the Royal orders of His Majesty to convert the remaining partial scholarship students to full scholarships is part of His Majesty’s ongoing gestures to the Omani citizens and come as Royal initiatives to develop areas of investment in the Omani youth. “The Royal orders are a wise reading of His Majesty of the needs and aspirations of students and they mean to relieve them from burdens of life that weigh them down,” said Dr Rawya.
The minister pointed out that His Majesty has accorded special attention to the higher education sector since the beginning of the Omani Renaissance because he believes that the robustness of specialised education constitutes the cornerstone of the nation-building process. — ONA
