The United States continue to support a “peaceful, sustainable and mutually agreed upon solution” to the Sahara issue, said on Thursday U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton following a meeting with her Algerian peer Mourad Medelci.
With regards to the Sahara issue, “our policy has not changed. We continue to support efforts to find a peaceful, sustainable and mutually agreed upon solution to the conflict,” said Clinton at a joint press conference in Washington.
Clinton also voiced U.S. administration’s support to “the negotiations carried out by the United Nations. We encourage all parties, including Algeria, to play an active role in trying to move toward a resolution.”
She said, in this regard, that “We encouraged Algeria for greater cooperation with Morocco and an active role in the UN-led negotiations to resolve the conflict” over the Sahara.
