Rabat – Head of Government Abdelilah Benkirane held, on Friday in Rabat, talks with Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Russian President Special Envoy for the Middle East Mikhaïl Bogdanov.
The meeting focused on the means to foster cooperation with Morocco, Bogdanov told the press, adding that he is bearing a message from the Russian President Vladimir Putin to HM King Mohammed VI.
Bogdanov also recalled the visit by HM the King to Russia in 2002 and Putin’s visit to Morocco in 2006 during which an agreement on a strategic partnership was signed between the two countries given a new impetus to their bilateral relations.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the latest development in the Middle East following the Arab Spring, the Russian official said, adding that “Morocco stands as a model for other countries in the region in the field of democracy and freedoms.”
On the situation in Syria, he said Russia calls for an immediate halt to bloodshed and advocates the launch of a national dialogue between all the parties with a view to puting an end to this crisis.
