Spanish engineering and technology group SENER has completed the first grid synchronisation of the third phase of the 580-MW Noor Ouarzazate CSP and solar complex in Morocco.
SENER said on Wednesday that it will now start the final tests at the 150-MW Noor Ouarzazate III concentrated solar power (CSP) plant. Those will mark the last step before launching commercial operations, it explained. The plant’s delivery to the client is will take place by the end of this year.
The Spanish firm is using its own central receiver tower and molten salt heat storage technology. Its scope of work within the project included basic and detailed engineering, equipment supply for the thermal storage system, as well as construction of the the solar field consisting of 7,400 heliostats HE54 and the molten salt receiver.
The Noor solar complex will use both CSP and photovoltaic (PV) technology split in four phases.The first phase of the scheme, a parabolic trough CSP park of 160 MW, was switched on in February 2016. There is another solar thermal portion with a capacity of about 200 MW and a 70-MW PV facility.
