Grape season in the Mediterranean

The table grape season has started in the Mediterranean. The weather conditions were favourable, and the first volumes were exported from Egypt, followed by a shipment from Israel in early May. Morocco is in the starting blocks.

The preference seems to be for the seedless grapes (Early Sweet, Sugraone, Flame Seedless and Autumn Royal). These are primarily intended for the North European markets, the UK and the Netherlands. Europe is also importing grapes from the Arab Gulf states, but their clientele is mainly in Asian countries.

According to figures from the European customs, a total of 63,000 tons was imported in Europe. Egypt shipped 50,000 tons, Morocco between 8,000 and 10,000 tons, and Israel between 2,000 and 4,000 tons.
