The Ukrainian government on January 18, 2012 approved a resolution on the submission of an agreement between the Ukrainian government and the government of Morocco on merchant navigation for ratification by the Ukrainian parliament, the press service of the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry reported on Wednesday.

The report says that the agreement was signed by the sides on December 7, 2009.

The agreement aims to regulate and develop cooperation between Ukraine and Morocco in merchant navigation.

In addition, the realization of the agreement is intended to promote the general development of trade and economic relations between the states.

The agreement envisages the mutual recognition of ship documents that confirm the national identity of ships, as well as measurement certificates and other ship documents issued or recognized by one of the sides.

Morocco will also ensure Ukrainian ships at its ports will be treated in the same way as their own ships engaged in international navigation. This concerns free access to ports, the use of ports for loading and unloading of cargo, the embarkation and debarkation of passengers, carrying out regular merchant operations and the use of navigation services.

In addition, the same principle will be in effect when imposing port duties and taxes. Ukraine takes on the same liabilities towards ships from Morocco.
