Lufthansa’s in-house LCC germanwings has launched two new routes between its home base at Cologne/Bonn (CGN) and Morocco. It now serves Tangier (TNG) every Thursday and Casablanca (CMN) every Wednesday for the rest of the summer season with its A319s. The Tangier route was previously served by airberlin with either one or two weekly flights until the end of last summer, while the Casablanca route was served last summer by both Air Arabia Maroc and airberlin, neither of whom are serving the market this year. Although air traffic at Moroccan airports grew by just 2% in 2011 to 15.67 million, passenger numbers between Morocco and Germany grew by some 7% to almost 650,000.
