Today, France assumes the rotating presidency of the Security Council of the UN, amid efforts to stop the conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Libya and South Sudan.

The 15-member body defines the agenda for June behind closed doors, which will include discussions on threats to peace, the monitoring of the major crises and the analysis of missions of the peacekeepers of the organization.

After the program is set, the French UN ambassador, Francois Delattre, will share it with non-member countries and the press.

It is expected that the situation in Syria will at the center for several days during the month, in a context marked by expectations for the resumption of talks in Geneva between the government and the opposition, as well as compliance with the ceasefire established on February 27 and the humanitarian aid to the victims of the conflict.

Yemen should also motivate meetings about peace negotiations in Kuwait to solve the crisis that since 2014 faces the rebels of the Houthi tribe with troops loyal to President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

Other conflicts such as the ones in Burundi, the Central African Republic, Western Sahara, Sudan, Libya and South Sudan could generate the attention of the Security Council, in the case of the last two countries, to assess the progress in the implementation of agreements on governments of national unity.
