Paris – France said on Wednesday that it will stand by the new Moroccan government as part of its support for the “ambitious reforms” spurred by HM King Mohammed VI.
“France, which supports the ambitious reforms launched by the King of Morocco, reaffirms its willingness to stand by the new Moroccan government,” the French Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Bernard Valero, told the press.
France voiced hope that the Deauville Partnership will be implemented by the G8 to provide financial support to countries undergoing democratic transition in North Africa and the Middle East, he said.
The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) fully supports Morocco, he added.
Valero said that French Prime Minister François Fillon and Foreign Minister Alain Juppé sent congratulatory messages to their Moroccan counterparts, Abdelilah Benkirane and Saad-Eddine El Othmani respectively on their appointment.
Juppé had recently said, during a phone conversation with Benkirane, that he will shortly pay a visit to Morocco.
