Rabat – Morocco and France reaffirmed, on Thursday, their commitment to an “in-depth and reinvigorated” partnership to address security challenges and manage migratory flows.

“We are endeavoring to achieve an in-depth partnership on issues of shared interest, mainly security, the fight against crime, drug trafficking and migration issues,” Interior Minister Mohand Laenser said at a joint press briefing with French peer Manuel Valls.

The two parties voiced concern over the security situation in the Sahel and Sahara region, warning against the threats of destabilizing this area.

They stressed the need for promoting a win-win partnership for the development and promotion of common interests, on top of which the approach to adopt in managing migratory flows.

“Morocco is not only a transit country, but also a host country. We are facing the same migration challenges as other countries,” Laenser noted, affirming that the Kingdom is continuing its cooperation with the countries concerned.

“We are doing a very fruitful job with Spain and France in this field,” he added.
