Four Seasons Resort Marrakech in art and culture focus
Maarifa, or “knowledge” in Arabic, is the name of the new cultural centre of Four Seasons Resort Marrakech, describing a space dedicated to art and culture of Morocco.
The first exhibition at the Maarifa Cultural Centre presented the painter Alain Oggo. Oggo’s vision of modern and colourful oriental charm captures the spirit of the nearby medina. Layered between the real and the surreal, his paintings offer an aerial view; a geometric abstraction; a labyrinth of light, colours and materials.
Now, the Maarifa Cultural centre continues to welcome aficionados of art and culture through exhibitions of serigraphs, lithographs and engravings, as well as other art exhibitions coming from great names of Moroccan painting and orientalist artists.
A bookshop within the Maarifa Cultural Centre offers a fine selection of books on Moroccan Art de Vivre, as well as photographs of Morocco from the 19th century. Sculptures in the form of Arabian knights decorate the room, and Moroccan pottery adds an craftsman’s touch.
Additional items for sale include Moroccan handicrafts; designer items for women, men and children; beautiful pieces of vintage mottled leather; jewelry with semi-precious stones; accessories, handbags and clutches such as printed python leather pouches with stylish bright red or cobalt blue gussets finely embellished with gold; and Berber carpets. This beautiful collection reflects the discerning eye of Laetitia Trouillet, a former personal shopper of international celebrities coming to shop in Marrakech and owner of label Lalla. Laetitia knows every corner of the medina, from craftsmen to designers in the souks.
For guests staying at Four Seasons Resort Marrakech, the Maarifa Cultural Centre also offers professional-led workshops such as perfume making, Arabic calligraphy, argan oil making and mint tea rituals.
